Electric car & hybrid servicing in Southbourne
Electric cars still need servicing. Brakes, tyres, suspension and the 12-volt battery wear differently on an EV, and we know what to check.
We service electric and hybrid vehicles. We don't carry out high-voltage repairs.
What an EV service covers
- Brakes: EVs use the brakes less, so discs and pads can corrode and seize. We clean and check them.
- Tyres and suspension: EVs are heavier, so tyres and suspension parts wear faster.
- 12-volt battery: the small battery still runs the car's systems, and a weak one stops an EV starting.
- Coolant, cabin filter, wipers, lights and fluids.
Hybrids too
Hybrids have a petrol engine as well as an electric system. We do the routine servicing to the manufacturer's schedule, including the engine oil and filters.
What we don't do
We don't carry out high-voltage work. That means no repairs or fault-finding on the high-voltage battery, electric motor, charging system or other high-voltage parts.
Your questions answered
Do electric cars need servicing?
Yes. There's no oil change, but brakes, tyres, suspension, coolant, the cabin filter and the 12-volt battery all need checking, usually once a year.
Is EV servicing cheaper than petrol or diesel?
Usually, because there's no engine oil, filters or spark plugs. We price each car so you know the cost before we start.
Can you fix a high-voltage or battery fault?
No. We don't carry out high-voltage repairs or high-voltage fault-finding. We service electric and hybrid cars: brakes, tyres, suspension, fluids and checks.
Will it affect my EV warranty?
No. You can have your EV serviced at an independent garage as long as it follows the manufacturer's schedule.
